Obesity Satire
This cartoon is quick and straight to the point. It is basically saying that obesity is a serious health concern, and can result in high blood pressure, diabetes and possibly cardiac arrest. Even with all of these factors, americans are the fattest people in the country. Sure, people enjoy a cheeseburger every now and then, but going to McDonald's everyday and wondering why you're gaining weight at a rapid pace means you need to be punched in the face. Everyone has heard of the crazy lawsuits from families claiming that it is McDonald's fault for their weight problem. Hello! WAKE UP!! Did McDonald's put a gun to your head and force you to eat their food? No! I absolutely hate when people don't take responsibility for their own actions, and try to blame others for their problems.
The point this cartoon is trying to get across to people is that obesity can and will kill you, and you can make the choice to get off of your butt and exercise. It's beneficial in the long run, and it'll make you feel and look better. And it'll make the rest of us happy because we won't have to listen to you complain about how fat you are while you sit there with a cheeseburger in one hand and fries in the other.
Texting Satire
We have all seen someone texting while driving, and I am pretty sure that everyone has done it in their lifetime. Some of the people ended their "lifetime" by sending a message while behind the wheel. Even with all the ads that say text messaging is extremely dangerous while driving, people (especially teenagers) still do it. Why? Because apparently we are all stupid. Almost every night, there is something on the news about how someone was killed by a texting driver. I highly doubt someone saying "lol" or "OMG!" is more important than a life.
To make matters worse, people who are caught try to defend it by saying "Well it's ok, I drive with my knees", or "I'm a great driver, so nothing's going to happen." Last time I checked, humans aren't invincible or immortal. Stop being idiots, and put the stupid phone down. And if it's that important, PULL OVER. The fact that looking at your cellphone while driving can result in someone's death should be enough incentive to leave your phone alone for a few minutes.
Christmas Satire
We all know that the meaning of Christmas is supposed to be about family and celebrating the birth of Jesus (for thos that are religous). However, for the past years, Christmas has become simply another day to show people you love them by buying material things. This picture clearly shows that the meaning of christmas has changed. Now, it's all about who gets the best presents and the most expensive stuff. Being a poor person going to a rich school, it is extremely apparent how people now view christmas as a time to get new stuff. My sister came home one day proclaiming that she wanted to punch this girl in the face. When I asked why, she proceeded on by saying that the girl was mad at her parents because she got a car for christmas, but they didn't buy her the new Ipad. This new mentality that younger generations have about christmas obviously upsets elders and people who can't afford to buy such extravagant gifts. Some people complain that people need to realize that family is the true meaning of christmas. However, even Santa Claus knows that consumerism has replaced the meaning of christmas.
Democrats vs. Republicans
In this politcal satire cartoon, the mascots for the Republican Party and the Democratic Party are disagreeing on the most petty things. The artist of this cartoon is trying to convey to the readers that the two parties in office are too busy whining and muling about miniscule things when there are much bigger problems at hand. I believe the cartoon is also saying that both parties will just yell at each other, but what they're saying makes no sense and is useless in an arguement. The artist uses complete antonyms to get his point across about the uselessness of the arguement at hand. As you can see in the cartoon, there really is no topic that the two parties are discussing. They are just yelling at one another.
PETA Satire
In this picture, a clever person put a sticker on a cat and took a picture to basically make fun of PETA, or People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. Everyone in their lifetime has at one point heard of PETA and their demands for animals to have equal rights as humans, and they ae probably most famous for their unreasonable lawsuits and their famous ad's that state "I would rather go naked than wear fur." I found this picture to be quite humorous, and I understand it's joking around. All I can say is that I hope PETA has the same sense of humor.
